this app makes grey circles grow colourfully while playing fun sound effects when you tap the screen. It was built for my daughter, Lyra. Lyra was born with a very rare genetic condition called MEF2C Haploinsufficiency Syndrome. This syndrome has a wide spectrum of symptoms and everyone diagnosed with it will exhibit them differently.
Lyra has difficulty with movement and her coordination is poor, but she loves smashing the keys on a mechanical keyboard, so I made her a simple web-app (https://keyboardsmasher.net) so that she could sit on my lap in front of a computer and see colours appear and sounds play when she smashed at the keys.
Over time this has had a positive effect on her motor skills and we now see her pressing keys a lot more gently and purposefully. It has also taught her a bit about cause and effect relationships.
I decided to make this into an app so that we could have a version to take anywhere with us to keep her happy on the go.
I hope that it has some value for other children with MEF2C Haploinsufficiency and other disorders, even if just to make them smile the way Lyra does. I also hope that it might be a little bit of fun for everyone else too.
